Adding a Feed Source (Importing as Feed Items)

In this page we go over the usage of the WP RSS Aggregator core plugin when used alone, or alongside any of the below add-ons (alone or together):

Your first step is to set the General Plugin Settings of your choice, followed by the General Display Settings that will determine how the feed items are displayed at the end of this process.

The first step is to click on the “Add New” option found here: RSS Aggregator > Add New. The first step here is that of naming your feed source (e.g. WP Mayor), Most commonly, this would be the name of the website you’re getting the feeds from.

Then enter the feed URL for that website. Our guide will show you how to get the feed URL from a website. It’s important to identify the website’s RSS feed rather than using its general URL.

If you want to limit the number of items imported from this feed source, you can enter a number in the Limit field. When new items are imported and the limit is exceeded, the oldest feed items will be deleted to make room for new ones.

If you already have items imported from this feed source, setting this option now may delete some of your previously imported items in order to comply with the limit.

To make feed items link to the URL in the enclosure tag, rather than link to the original article, you can tick the Link to enclosure box. Enclosure tags are RSS tags that may be included with a feed item. These tags typically contain links to images, audio, videos, attachment files or even flash content. If you’re not sure, leave this setting blank.

The final option is called Unique titles only. This allows you to choose whether to allow multiple feed items to have the same title. When checked, if a feed item has the same name as a previously imported feed item, it won’t be imported. This can be useful in cases where permalinks change, or where multiple permalinks refer to the same title. When ticking this box from within the feed source’s settings, it will apply to this particular feed source.

You can now go ahead and hit the Publish button.

If the URL is correct and the feed is valid, you will see the latest 5 feed items in the Feed Preview section. This indicates that all is well with this feed source.

Congratulations, you’ve successfully added a new feed source!

Feed item display is controlled via the [wp-rss-aggregator] shortcode. This shortcode accepts a number of parameters that can be found here. If you are using the Feed to Post add-on please note that the shortcode will no longer be used. The imported posts can be found in your site’s Posts list, and are then displayed by your theme or page builder.

If your feed items are not importing please have a look at the possible solutions listed here or contact our support team.
